Flying the F/A-18C - A carrier based Strike Fighter squadron.

DCS ANZUS

Our Story

VMFA-232 EXCHANGE We have an additional carrier based detachment squadron. USMC VFMA-232 Red Devils. The VFMA-232 conducts carrier based operations with the VF-213 Black Lions (F-14s). It is a four-pilot (with spares) "exchange" program, in reality a detachment of 77 SQN that flies F/A-18’s off the boat in ANZUS.

The detachment commander is @Gilligan assigned to 232, the other three rotation spots are open to ANZUS Hornet drivers who meet the criteria. Each rotation lasts three months. Successful applicants must be experienced F/A-18C Pilots and pass Carrier Qualifications, conducted at the start of the rotation.

Flight Schedule

Training
The Red Devils has no scheduled training nights as our pilots are generally drawn from our 77 SQN and begin training for operations around the boat. We do regular CQ training sessions to keep that skill alive.

Operations
We participate in the Wing PvE campaign style missions as a detachment when carrier based strike aircraft are required.
